2013 YALL

As 2012 comes to an end, in literally hours, I am left deciding what my Facebook status should say. Everyone puts up a list of everything they did/didn't accomplish in attempts to compete with each other.  While I find this annoying and borderline pathetic, I thought I would take the time to do my list on here, as to seem more of a douchebag. So here is a bunch of shit I did in 2012 that is worth typing about.

Getting to assist a stylist on a shoot for paper magazine as really cool, it was the first time I'd had a look into the world of styling. Then soon after that I was able to style another shoot for some test shots where I had the styling direction, which was very new and fun.

Also all of the new books, movies, and T.V I have discovered. Running With Scissors, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, Occupy Nation, The Tents, Bill Cunningham New York, Visual Acoustics, Argo, Weeds, Lip Service,  Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, Portlandia, The Office, Three Rivers, and the thousand other T.V shows, movies, and books I read and watched.

The Tegan and Sara concert at the Bowery Ballroom in downtown manhattan was also amazing. Admittedly, I have been obsessed an avid listener for many years now, but never been able to see them live. Since the Bowery is a small venue the event was super intimate and the sound was great.

Moving to New York City has been the most transformative and life altering (biggest cliche term ever) experience. While i had decided I would move to New York a few years ago, everything coming to fruition this year made my life amazing. in fact, my new phrase is "My life is better in New York." Sadly I do say this all the time.

While thinking about this post it seemed it would be more comprehensive and impressive, but as of now it seems to be all I can conjure.  But now I will celebrate the New Year while watching Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin and eating ice cream. Happy New Year Yall.

Paris Fashion Week, Let's Chat

Let's start off with the more disappointing and lackluster shows
I found this YSL, or Saint Laurent Paris, show to be boring, over-styled, and regressive. I was expecting something more minimal and innovative, but the looks presented seemed a little too trendy and overworked. I did however love some of the individual pieces, but as a whole I felt uninspired by the collection.
Balmain is by far one of my favorite fashion houses, so I was sad that I felt there were so many problems with this collection. The main issue I had was with the shoulders. On most occasions I love and overdone shoulder, but these ones were just too big. Maybe for retail they will scale the shoulders down (that is if anyone can drop tens of thousands of dollars on a jacket anyway). I am a big fan of Balmain for the Rock and Roll over-embelishment aspect of the garments. While I did love the classic mini dresses, I found some of the embellished crop tops and pants to be unpleasing.

Now for the ones I loved
This Dries Van Noten show was my favorite of Paris Fashion Week as a whole. Fashion may be moving in a more simple modern direction, but for now this layering, floral, and sartorial feel is perfect. I thought the styling was done perfectly, along with the hair and accesories. I cannot help but say good things about this collection, especially how much I want to own every look.
Many of my peers have said they did not like this collection, they felt it was too all over the place, and that it looked like 4 collection in one. I on the other hand, loved it. One of the highlights for me was the candy wrapper fabric, especially in the closing gowns. I thought the collection was very parisian and kept the classic Dior shapes, yet still was innovative and for lack of a better word super-cute!
While I was not crazy excited by the final few dresses, I did find the skirt shapes and beginning bodice cuts very flattering. In this show I was drawn in by the minimalism at first, as the show took a turn towards more embellishments and different fabrics towards the end. Overall though, I thought the show was successful, and I would be happy to wear any number of the garments.

So there you go, my interpretation of a few of the shows from PFW. As I keep looking through the many different shows I will probably do another review. Let me know if you agree or disagree, because I read every comment!!

Neighborhood Stroll

So today I had no plans and went on a walk around my "neighborhood." I use quotes around neighborhood because in New York do we even technically have them?? Regardless, I had nothing to do because I finished watching The Office and had no idea what to do with my life. Neflix is the social devil, but anyway this is what I saw!

A beautiful church I saw along the way.

I love how even though I am in NY there are still amazing tree lined streets.

One of the best places I found was a british candy shop that only sold candy from across the pond!

Then I arrived back home to find a giant package of cookies from my dad! I used my new camera to take all of these pictures, and I am very happy with them. Have a nice rest of the weekend!

Proenza Paralysis

As per usual I died for the Proenza show. They are by far my favorite NY design house year after year. I go ape shit crazy for their shapes, and use of different materials, and this year was no different. So here is the video of their latest SS13 show, and let me know if it left you crying with it's dazzling array of amazingness!!!

Im going to get some coffee, and explore some more of New York City. See yah later.

FASHION WEEK

So today I went down to Lincoln Center to check out fashion week. Basically it was a sea of bloggers and I was proud to be one of them. I've actually never been to a fashion week event before and it was one of the happiest moments I have ever had. Seriously, just to among fashion people was so exciting for me. These are a few of the street style shots that I took today right before the DVF show.

Hopefully I will be receiving my new camera this week so I can et some better quality images. Let me know what you think!!!

Work Outfit

I posted this on Lookbook a few weeks ago. It was an outfit I wore to work, and I really liked it.

Skirt by Urban Outfitters, Vest by Club Monaco, and bracelet by Juicy Couture.

12.4.12

I can't believe I made this..

This afternoon I made this clutch/envelope/elbow bag. My inspiration was the ones at American Apparel, yes the $65 ones. I made this one for about $5 and it took less than an hour. I am really proud of it!!

YSLipstic

I wanted to make a quick post just to say how much I love my Rouge Volupte lipstick by YSL. I wear the color Perle everyday. I really have nothing more to say besides that I love it, and that the packaging is so pretty!
And I would love it if yall would let me know if your actually reading and visiting this blog.

Rainbow Crystals

Since the weather has been getting warmer and i want to wear big white Tshirts and cutoff shorts all day I have been dying for the right summer statement necklace. Well, I found it........
it's from Juicy Couture and you can find it here. It is honestly so perfect.

I was super inspired by Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller  (which I am obsessed with right now, she is so cool). She wears a multitude of cute necklaces all the time and always a collection of bracelets for her "arm party". She did a collaboration with the jewelry company Dannijo, and came up with the most incredible pieces ever!! Take a look...

Its a New Day

Ok so here is the deal. To anyone who still even reads or looks at this blog I apologize for extreme absence. I got very into tumblr and am still addicted, but i will now be also posting on here as well. All of my old posts are irrelevant and my new style on here will be street style as well as my own personal style and trend forecasting. I hope that everyone who sees this will be interested in what is to come.

Also the blog title "Someday We Must Go. So Lets Dress Well Now" is going to be the mantra and passion behind every post, because lets be honest its true!!
